Future Lawyers of America was founded in 1977 with a mission of providing its members with information about the legal field. It was started by a retired lawyer from the east coast. In 2007 PSA Inc took over the the Future Lawyers of America and made it a division of the main company. It has changed several ways since we have taken over.
The first thing that PSA did to change the FLAA was to make sure that it provided the same services that the rest of the company provides. We moved to make the FLAA more than a simple organization to an active teaching organization. In order to do this PSA took a very good look at different school programs that are offered through out the United States that teach high school students things about the legal profession. PSA found that we would allow any club or team in a public or private high school that dealt with learning or practicing law to become a member. Through this program we are able to offer students the ability to learn how the legal profession works. We are currently working on curriculum that can be used by mock trial programs to teach an introduction course in to the legal field. We have already contacted several mock trial programs and will be sponsoring competitions threw out the United States.
Aside from working with the Mock Trial programs we are in the planning phase of having a national conference for all FLAA members in June or July of 2009. More information on this conference will be posted as it is available. Site cities that are being considered: Austin, Denver, Boston, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Las Angeles, Orlando.
We will also be listing our best high schools for students involved in the study of the many law areas. This list will be published in May 2009.
