Future Lawyers of America was founded in 1977 with a mission of providing its members with information about the legal field. It was started by a retired lawyer from the east coast. In 2007 PSA Inc took over the the Future Lawyers of America and made it a division of the main company. It has changed several ways since we have taken over.
The first thing that PSA did was to change the FLAA was to make sure that it provided the same services that the rest of the company provides. We moved to make the FLAA more than a simple organization to an active teaching organization. In order to do this PSA took a very good look at different school programs that are offered through out the United States that teach high school students things about the legal profession. PSA found that we would allow any club or team in a public or private high school that dealt with learning or practicing law to become a member. Through this program we are able to offer students the ability to learn how the legal profession works. We are currently working on curriculum that can be used by mock trial programs to teach an introduction course in to the legal field. We have already contacted several mock trial programs and will be sponsoring competitions threw out the United States.
FLAA will launch the Mock Legislative hearing program for the 2009-2010 school year. This program will be open to all high schools and there will be grants available for schools who win. Check back later for more details.
